About Our Care Group
Dori and I have been leading Care Groups for a number of years and we have been through many seasons of change with a variety in the make up of the group over the time. Presently the Care Group is quite mixed. Although we have a number of adult couples and singles with grown children (but a few of us still have children that are pre and early teen), we also have younger families with children from infant to elementary age. What knits us together is that fact that we are friends and our desire is to grow and mature in a way that pleases the Lord and better prepares us for His service. It is the fellowship, love and relationship that we have that binds us together. We enjoy times of fellowship around the Word of God, prayer and worship. The small group setting lends itself to having personal needs expressed and ministered to as well as the opportunity to exercise the gifting the Lord has given to each member. The meetings are scheduled from 7:00 to 8:30 to better support the schedules of the younger children, but we encourage the fellowship and ministry to continue as long as people want to stay. We really are friends and value each other and the gifting that God has given to each of us for ministry to all of us and those for whom we pray. We love to pray. We love to lift our requests before God and seek His face. We love to hear from God and be comforted by His Word and voice. We welcome everyone to come and visit. We love children and we love diversity (we can have some pretty spicy discussions around Gods Word and how it applies to us today). This may not be the Care Group God is calling you to be part of but please stop in at least once and give us the opportunity to meet you and share the desires and burdens of your heart.
About Our Family
We first started attending NCC in 1979 and our family was just Dori, myself and Nicholas (who was 1 year old and one of the very few children in the small – 35 member – church). Over the years we have served in most of the church’s ministries, particularly in leading a care group. Our family has grown as well and now there are ten of us. Of our eight children, we have 6 sons ages 28, 26, 24, 17,13 and 9 and two daughters ages 20 and 18. Five of our children are adopted. Our children are one of the biggest blessings in our life. As a family, we have first-hand experience with special needs. Dori has been blind since the age of 13 and several of our children have special needs. We educate all of our children tailored to their needs which have included public, private and Christian schooling. We have learned to trust in the Lord as every day is exciting and hold its’ own surprises. Sometimes they make you laugh, other times you cry. As a family we embrace them all and give thanks and Glory to God.
Our Age Target Is
Our Care Group is primarily made up of families with children ranging in age from infant to late-twenties.
Special Activities for Children
Parents have the option to include their children in our worship or allow them to be taken care of by our older daughter and son. During the Bible study, our teenage son and daughter do crafts and activities with the younger children.
